It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Scott “Boots” Powless - Taowinogeh on May 20, 2026. Boots passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Boots was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Beloved father of Steven Powless (Catherine), Amanda Powless, Greg Powless, Andy Powless (Cheyenne), and Mich Hill. Loving grandfather to his cherished grandchildren. Boots was predeceased by his son Byron Powless. “We love you Hanih.” Boots was the son of the late Coleman Powless and Clara Powless. He is survived by his siblings Karen Hill, Joseph Powless, Coleen Powless, Kelly Powless, Kim Powless, Cami Powless, and April Powless. He was predeceased by his brother Clyde Powless. He will also be deeply missed by his close friends Rod Hill and Jesse Porter, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Boots will be resting at 3493 6th Line beginning Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Onondaga Longhouse on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time.

The last 3 and a half years spent with you was amazing
You were a wonderful man I'll never forget you. Our love was ever lasting.
Our final words to each other on May 19 will always follow me our memories we had together will keep me threw till we meet again my love. Rest easy now your pain is gone

just heard my friend
im thinking about all our singing together you were great. Fishing trips casino runs been awhile. got to speak to you a few times while you were sick always had a great attitude. really thought you were gonna win
but creator had other plans
