The Memories of Papa Herb

By Selina Burke

Sadly, he is gone
But shall be remembered
The night we lost him
2 days before December
We cried and cried
All of our tears
In hopes that his warmth
Could once more come near
He always brought smiles
Into faded rooms
And made everyone laugh
Like a cheeky baboon
All of the good memories
We will remember them clearly
Our great Papa Herb
We will miss him so dearly

Condolences

My sincere condolences to Norma, Amanda n Spike. Such a nice guy. He rescued Amanda n I when we got stuck in the muddy field when playing. We were told not to go in there, but we did. Rest in peace Herb.

First met Herb in grade 9 at Caledonia High School. Herb excelled at shop and cadets. He won the top shop student and top army cadet. His build was the envy of the rest of us. Always a gentleman; always a friendly greeting wherever and whenever you met him. Remember at out high school reunion committee meeting, he was appalled that we had a money making auction plan…reunion was not about money,it was rekindling old friends. During this time, he told me how he would single handed lay, build industrial machine all by himself…he would arrange all the pieces of the machine, then build the machine in record time. I feel bad with Herb’s passing..I am glad that I knew him, that he was my friend…rest well my friend!

What a pleasure it has been to meet and know Herb and his entire family. Always good for a friendly conversation or even just a quick hello or good night. He is missed by every one at Anson. Rest easy friend and neighbour.

Herb, you were one of the kindest and wisest souls brought to us at Anson Place. My “partner in crime,” as I always said. I’ll always remember your warm smile and the laughter you shared with everyone. Keep smiling up there, Herb — you’ll be deeply missed.
